This is an autobiographical story of the natural phases of self.

I gathered moss, flowers, fungi, and branches over a year from places I lived and traveled— a scrapbook of my healing journey. These natural elements embody growth and hope, death and decay. As does the mandible; the bone for eating, for communicating, a strong symbol of our humanity and also of my own personal challenges. My debilitating jaw pain is the greatest hindrance to my daily life. It worsens and eases like seasons. Through this piece I accept it, I honor it and who it has made me.

Cast mandible, copper leaf, moss, flowers, branches, and other elements of nature, embellished with pearls, rhinestones, and chains. Approx 15x17 inches.
